BOABOA's 2011

It's that time again. Top 10 lists are everywhere, so it's probably time for me to jump on the festive bandwagon and bang out my personal favourite things of the year, mostly tunes that have been going down well when I've been playing out. So, whilst Loose Women shout their heads off on the telly, I'm going to sum up my year in one blog post.

Top 10 tunes:

10) Blawan - Getting Me Down

While RnB samples become cooler and more ironic than an episode of "Dalston Superstars" Blawan proves that when you get a good one (in this case, Brandy) and accompany it with some ERRATIC percussion, you're onto a winner. Proof that you can pull up house music and not look like a fool.

9) Scuba - Adrenalin

A late entry, but when you get lost in the trance breakdown that lasts about half the duration of the tune, you'll know why it's on the list.

8) Luca Lozano - Thug It Out (KWS)

Luca Lozano of Zombie Disco Squad fame gets the Kris Wadsworth treatment, and the outcome speaks for itself. A downtempo juggernaut with more whomps than the Skrillex album. Klasse Recordings is also easily my favourite label of 2011.

7) Eats Everything - Heard That

Attack of the RnB samples 2: Revenge of the RnB, one of the best in my opinion which is probably why I'm so into this big one from new alias man, Eats Everything. The second drop on this is catastrophic. Pets Recordings aren't too bad either.

6) Zoo Look - Holdin' On

When your mates are releasing shit like this, it's madness.

5) Wadsworth - Lime & Pink

Kris Wadsworth doing it again. Another chugger, more whomps, more foot stomping, MORE ENERGY.

4) Steffi - Yours

It's been posted before, but I'll post it again. This tune is amazing, weird, scary/ all the above. At my one and only Panorama Bar experience this was dropped and felt extra special. Great tune.

3) Casino Times - That's The Truth

Another chums tune. It's been an awesome year for these guys with debut EPs, Berlin shows and arguably THE biggest underground tune of 2011. And guess what? ANOTHER RnB sample! OHHHHH NO!

2) Coat Of Arms - Is This Something

Absolute BOMB. Proper jackin' bouncy house business from the Bristol boys who have released gem after gem this year and have a real definitive sound, as does the next guy...

1) Julio Bashmore - Battle For Middle You

Goosebumps every time. I'll never forget the first time I heard this... Jesse Rose played a "secret" show, before his slot at Counter Culture, where he dropped it AGAIN. I was hooked. It came out at the beginning of the year, and has been doing it ever since, and will do well into 2012. Recent highlight: Greymatter letting it loose at Tief at Corsica Studios.
