Blonde Redhead : LIVE

*let me start by saying i love Blonde Redhead, this little piece will be incredibly one sided*
last night, it was pissing down with rain, so much so i even suggested not going, luckily, i didn't follow that through. i hadn't seen BR for maybe 2 or 3 years, it was at KOKO, the show was airy and like a lucid dream, was great, so i was expecting good things. missed the first on, i hate doing that! it was at Shepherds Bush Empire, and it wasn't as horribly busy as the other times id been there, i had room to enjoy. and that i did! everything from stage set up to sound was spot on. constant smoke on stage, photography lighting, umbrella's and such, looked great. i didn't realise until seeing the new stuff live how bass heavy it all is, every song you felt through your body. alot of "fans" aren't fond of the new sound / direction the band are going in, to be honest, it is different, alot different from the origins they came from but i still believe you can hear BR in everyone of their songs new or old.
i'd defo recommend on seeing them live, and buying the new album, "Penny Sparkle", listen to it in full, from start to finish

So it's been a while...

But I can't ignore the fact that Luton still means this much more to me than anything else on the planet. Fair enough I've been doing my own thing in Bournemouth and the South West, but it gives me no excuse for not blogging along with the Dark Party lot. I apologise.

But hey, now I'm little bit more aware of things around me, and what good music should actually sound like, I think it will benefit, at least one person, hopefully? How about a chart and nod towards DFA's latest long player, Shit Robot's "From the Cradle to the Rave". A great synth-pop piece of work featuring contributions from Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) and House of House. Definitely check it out.

Oh and here's that chart I was talking about...

Once again, sorry.

Peace!

Aloe Blacc/ Stones Throw

I dont know alot about Aloe Blacc if im going to be honest, I was browsing the Stones Throw Records Soundcloud the other day checking the new Mayer Hawthorne single which is amazing (Check it below, it's got a massive Hip-Hop feel, but still smooth and soulful, anything I've heard of his is really up my street)...

Mayer Hawthorne - I Need You by stonesthrow

Anyway, back to Aloe. Firstly, im loving the video. It's got that American Gangster vibe going on. Secondly, his album comes out today. If you get it from Rough Trade you get a free bonus CD. If im going to be honest, im waiting 'till Wednesday to get my copy, as at my local Rough Trade (West and the best!), Mark Ronson will be serving all day... God knows why im bothering to wait, I just think it would be cool.

Cassius

i can remember theses guys from when i was a kid, and Cassius are still doing the business! with the new "The Rawkers" EP out early October, you're really in for a treat, my fave is "The No No's" (below) but this really is full of down tempo classic gems that makes Cassius as important today as they ever have been

my personal fave and all time classic

Ice, Sea, Dead People

on the eve of their first full length record"TEETH UNION", Ice, Sea, Dead People look like they're onto something good. the 3 always changing band members make for mild shifts in sound but with the main focus being a rawkus noise like no other (well maybe has elements of fugazi/ex models). they're playing an instore tomorrow at Rough Trade, from 7pm, i think you should go

Tuesday 21 September 2010

Coasting

in the hight of this new garage movement we've come across a mixture of macbook proers, and traditional 3 take rules. Coasting seem like the latter, with a raw more punk sound than alot of the other "girl bands" out there at the moment. really looking forward to the rumors of them coming over next year.

i'm a big fan of "what you wanted"

Negative Pegasus

"Neg Peg" for short, are a totally new new band from brighton. the bastard off shoot child of My Device, a band i didn't think this one would top, but with this EP it already has. i'm in Love, it has elements of Earthless, but with just that screechy edgy sound of a late 90s noise pop band. i think the most important thing about this is the under toned knarly riffs, this as an ep just kicks off... and i hate them for it

The Hundred In The Hand pt2

so as you all know we're a massive fan of these guys, and the joy of seeing them live in Brighton a few months back just fueled the love! with the release of their debut self titled album, as you can image we were excited!

with what seems to be a quiet minimal sound, it's actually quiet layered. taking dreamy DIY by the horns and making it their own, this looks like its shaping up to be one of my fave albums of the year.

personal faves from the album are Commotion, You Aren't Young, and Pigeon( the video below)

Abe Vigoda

i'm a fan of this band, first album reminded me of a more left field Vampire Weekend, now with the new single, Throwing Shade, they kinda remind me of Bloc Party, in a big way... see what you think

Hidden Cat

did i miss the memo? when did French electro come back?! i'm into this EP from Hidden Cat, being released on Kill Em All which isnt really an EP just the single remixed a few times. and this is one of the stand outs, the original is still better ;)
